Edouard Mendy: “Winning the Champions League is the best achievement of my life”
Senegalese Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy expressed his emotions after the Blues’ victory in the Champions League.
The goalkeeper has been impressive in the competition, keeping nine clean sheets in 12 games on the way to the trophy lifting.
Speaking after winning the ‘Best African International’ award, Mendy explained how he felt after winning the best tournament in Europe.
Mendy inserted himself into Frank Lampard’s squad before moving under Thomas Tuchel in January, replacing Kepa Arrizabalaga as Chelsea’s number one goalkeeper and looking impressive in all competitions as the Blues’ defense was improving under his guidance at the rear.
After signing for the Blues last summer, Mendy made 44 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, keeping 25 sheets clean and conceding just 29 goals.
The keeper beat the competition of Liverpool duo Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane as well as Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to win the award.
Speaking on getting the award, Mendy said: “I am happy and grateful to receive this award. It has been an amazing year for me and winning the Champions League is one of the best achievements of my life.”
